Alan Rogers Review of Camping Bungalows Zumaia

Set on a hillside above the interesting little port of Zumaia, this campsite was opened in June 2015 and offers 109 level hardstanding and grass touring pitches, plus a further ten pitches for tents.

Pitches are numbered and separated by small hedges and are located on one of four terraces cut into the hillside. Some have good views of the surrounding hills. All have 10A electricity, and most have water at the pitch. There is a good-sized swimming pool with a sun terrace and a small pool for children. The site is family owned and run, and although there is still work to be completed, the standard so far is excellent.

The bar/restaurant at the bottom of the site is open all season and serves a good range of local dishes. It becomes the focal point of the site particularly at weekends when local people from Zumaia congregate here. The owner Juan Luis is always on hand to give help and advice if needed and reception has information and leaflets on the many attractions of the Basque Region. A small amount of English spoken.

One modern sanitary block in the centre of the site provides controllable hot showers and open-style washbasins. Accessible Facilities. Laundry facilities. Motorhome service point. No shop, but essentials are available from reception. Good bar/restaurant and takeaway. Solar-heated swimming pool and paddling pool (July/Aug). Play area. WiFi throughout (charged). Bungalows are available to rent. Only small dogs are accepted.

Directions to Camping Bungalows Zumaia

Exit Autoroute A8 at 12 km. marker onto N634 to Zumaia. At first roundabout take third exit then bear left into Hega Kalea. Continue under railway and site is on right up a fairly steep incline to reception. Large units should take care.
