Alan Rogers Review of Camping Ascou la Forge
The Dutch owners of Ascou la Forge will give you a warm, friendly welcome at their oasis in the mountains of the Pyrenees, close to the borders of Andorra and Spain. The site is 3,500 feet above sea level but is easily accessible for motorhomes and caravans. Lying alongside the Lauze river, there are 55 grassy pitches, all with electricity (6-10A). There are also three chalets, two bungalows and one apartment available to rent. The site is quite open but a few trees scattered around provide some shade. Various grades of walks are available to suit all abilities.
The mountain views close to the site are outstanding and it is an ideal base for mountain walks and various outdoor sports. It is a perfect location for people who enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside although there is WiFi for those that must stay in touch. Social activities (at a small extra cost) are provided and include local wine and cheese evenings, pizza evenings, barbecues and picnics in the woods for children. The owners have a good knowledge of the local area and speak several languages including English. They provide professional kayak, white-water rafting and rescue courses on the nearby rivers. They will also supervise canoe activities on the adjacent reservoir. The principality of Andorra is just a short drive away for duty-free shopping.

Modern, bright, sanitary block is fully equipped including accessible facilities which double as a family shower room with a baby bath. Shop (all year). Bar (1/5-1/10) with large screen for major sports events and films about the local flora/fauna. Snack bar (all year), takeaway (1/7-1/9). Play area. Trampoline. Volleyball. Fishing. Maps and walking routes are available from reception. WiFi (free).

From Ax-les-Thermes take D613 signed Quérigat, Quillan and Ascou-Pailhéres. After 3.6 km. turn right on D25 to site on right after 3.4 km.
