Alan Rogers Review
La Roche-sur-Yon is an interesting Napoleonic town and capital of the Vendée. The town has easy access to fine sandy beaches. L’Ambois is an attractive three-hectare site, located just 2 km. from La Roche, and open all year. There are just six 120 sq.m. grassy pitches for touring, with 6/10A electrical connections (Europlug), water and waste water. Sixty mobile homes and chalets are available for rent. Leisure facilities include a covered swimming pool, a children’s farm, and during the peak season, occasional evening entertainment is organised. Excellent modern sports amenities are available at La Roche-sur-Yon.
Le Puy de Fou, arguably France’s finest ‘son et lumière’ experience, can be easily accessed from l’Ambois and should not be missed. To the south, the Venise Verte or Marais Poitevin is an idyllic area of waterways and unchanging nature, best viewed from a canoe or punt. However, for many, the Vendée is best known for its beaches and appealing climate. The bustling seaside resort of Les Sables-d’Olonne can be reached in 30 minutes.
