Alan Rogers Review
Barlochan Caravan Park is situated on a hillside overlooking the Urr Estuary on the Solway Coast close to Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas, with the small village of Palnackie being a short walk away. Set on terraces, level, marked and numbered, most of the touring and tent pitches are on grass with a limited number of hardstandings available. There are 16 with 16A electrical connections. In addition, there are two hikers’ pods and around 60 holiday homes (with eight available for hire) are positioned on terraces high above the touring areas and screened by mature shrubs and trees. Just to the left of the entrance, there is a minigolf course and an adventure play area screened from the park with mature trees. The small sheltered outdoor swimming pool is popular.
Through the village, under a mile from the park, there is a coarse fishing lake which is free for visitors to the park. Dalbeattie Forest nearby provides miles of walking and mountain bike trails. Castle Douglas is just 9 miles away and gardeners will enjoy an afternoon at the well known Threave Gardens.
Facilities
The heated sanitary facilities are kept spotlessly clean. Shower cubicles have recently been made larger, suitable for wheelchair entry, but if required there is also a separate unit with WC and basin. Fully equipped laundry with outside drying area. Reception and well stocked shop. Heated small outdoor swimming pool and terrace. Large games room and TV room. Minigolf.
Location
From Dumfries take A711 west to Dalbeattie. Continue through Dalbeattie for 0.5 miles and bear left at T-junction signed Auchencairn. Site is 2 miles on the right.
