Alan Rogers Review of Ashby Park

Ashby Park is a pleasant, well-run park located in 70 acres of former gravel pits that now provide seven attractive fishing lakes. There is a series of clearings occupied by privately owned caravan holiday homes, seasonal caravans and 127 touring pitches. All have access to 16A electricity and 100 pitches also have hardstanding, water tap and drainage.

Lakeside pitches will no doubt appeal to anglers, whereas families with young children will probably prefer to be further away from the lakes, as they are unfenced. One field caters for dog owners. Nearby is the bustling market town of Horncastle, renowned for its antique shops.

This is a peaceful park in an interesting area in the southwest corner of the Lincolnshire Wolds and at the edge of the Fens. Nearby are Tattershall Castle, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Woodhall Spa, a busy ‘inland resort’ village with a wide range of specialist shops, the unique ‘Kinema in the Woods’ and the pub used by the Dambusters. The area also has working windmills, nature reserves and a Heavy Horse Centre; it is crossed by the Viking Way. Further afield are Lincoln with its impressive cathedral, home to a copy of the Magna Carta, and recently restored castle, Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast, Boston and the RSPB reserves on the Wash.
