Alan Rogers Review
Le Pré Bas is an excellent site for families and those seeking the watersports on offer at the lake. Some 80 level, grassy touring pitches have mature hedging and trees, all with electricity (6A). A gate leads to the lakeside where, in high season, there is windsurfing, pedaloes, canoes and fishing, and 50 m. away is a beach with supervised bathing. The restaurant has an upper terrace with lake views. A pool complex has two heated swimming pools (one covered), slides and a paddling pool with splashpad. An exceptional spa/sauna centre offers complete relaxation for adults. There are 120 mobile homes to rent, including one specially adapted for disabled visitors.
The site is in the heart of the Parc des Volcans d’Auvergne, beside the beautiful Lac de Chambon with its clear, clean water. The cable car ride up to the Puy-de-Sancy, the highest peak in the area, provides superb views. The area has excellent opportunities for trekking and mountain bike rides (suggested routes available in reception). Superb scenery abounds; wooded mountains rising to over 6,000 feet, flower filled valleys and deep blue lakes. A large indoor adventure type play zone for 3-12 yr olds is adjacent to the wellness centre with its steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Massage is available from trained staff. A reasonably priced restaurant is open daily in high season. Bread can be ordered and the bar has a shop for basics.
Refurbished heated toilet building with facilities for disabled guests, plus four smaller units. Washing machines, dryers, ironing, baby room. Motorhome services. Bar, restaurant and takeaway (24/5-30/10). Three pools of different depths (24/5-14/9, lifeguard in July/Aug). Wellness centre. Watersports, fishing in lake. Games room, table tennis, table football, pool, TV, library. Adventure-style playground. Football. Basketball. Bicycle hire. Children’s club (supervised). Organised activities. WiFi. Max. 1 dog.
Leave A75 autoroute at exit 6 and take D978 signed St Nectaire and Murol, then D996. Site is located on left, 3 km, west of Murol at the far end of Lac de Chambon.Link to campsite location map on google
