Previously known as Les Acacias, Camping Médoc Océan is a medium sized, family run site in a lovely, rural location on the edge of the pretty little village of Vensac. Angelique, Rodolph and their staff offer a warm welcome in the chalet-style reception. The mixed woodland setting, with lots of flowering shrubs, makes a welcome change from the ubiquitous pines on the coast. There are 175 pitches (42 for touring) with electrical connections (6A). The no-frills, heated swimming and paddling pools and jacuzzi are open all season, but the attractive bar and shop are only open in high season.

In high season dance and musical evenings of a low-key nature are organised on the large terrace by the café, and there is a children’s club in July/August. There is a café, shop and post office in Vensac village, but for more amenities you will need to go to Saint Vivien (3 km). The site’s position in the centre of the peninsula make it ideal for exploring both the vineyards of the Medoc to the east and the Atlantic coast to the west, and its quiet friendly feel makes it a good base to return to after a day out. Note that the tariff is considerably lower than the coastal sites in this area. The owners are keen to point out the local attractions. English is spoken in reception.

Washing machines and dryers. Small shop (1/7-30/8). Bar, café and takeaway (1/7-30/8). Swimming and paddling pools (1/6-24/9). Minigolf (free). Play area. Fitness equipment. Volleyball. Trampoline. Directions to Yelloh! Village Camping Médoc Océan

From Bordeaux ring road take exit 8 towards St Medard, then a quick right-left onto D1 towards Castelnau-de-Medoc. This becomes the N215, past Lesparre-Medoc. After a further 15 km. ignore first left turn to Vensac, take second and site is on left in 200 m. From the north, take ferry from Royan to Le Verdon then N215 south and turn off to Vensac (20 km).
