Woodend Camping & Caravan Park is a delightful, small park overlooking Loch Shin and perfect for hill walkers and backpackers. Peaceful and simple, it is owned and run by Alan Ross, who provides a wonderfully warm Scottish welcome to visitors. The large camping field is undulating and gently sloping with some reasonably flat areas on a hill with open, panoramic views across the Loch to the hills beyond and all around.

The park is licensed to take 55 units, and most of the 30 electrical hook-ups (16A) are in a line near the top of the field. There are opportunities for fishing and hill walking. The famous Falls of Shin, with a visitor centre (about ten miles) is an ideal place to see the salmon leap.

Facilities at Woodend Caravan and Camping Park

The sanitary facilities are of old design but kept very clean and are quite satisfactory. Laundry with a washing machine and a dryer. Kitchen with dishwashing sinks and eating room for tent campers. Reception is at the house, Sunday papers, daily milk and bread may be ordered. Fishing licences for the Loch (your catch will be frozen for you).

Achnairn is near the southern end of Loch Shin. Turn off the A838 single track road at signs for Woodend. From the A9 coming north take the A836 at Bonar Bridge, 11 miles northwest of Tain.
