Alan Rogers Review of Vaugrat Camping
Vaugrat Camping is a neat, well-tended site, close to the beach in the northwest of the island. Owned and well run by the Lainé family, it is centred around attractive and interesting historic granite farm buildings dating back to the 15th century, with a gravel courtyard and very pretty flower beds.
The site provides 150 pitches (with 10A electricity available) on flat, grassy meadows that are mostly surrounded by trees, banks and hedges to provide shelter. Tents and motorhomes are arranged around the edges of the fields, giving open space in the centre, and while pitches are not marked, there is sufficient room and cars may be parked next to tents. Only couples and families are accepted.
The site also offers fully equipped tents for hire and they are considering the addition of glamping-style units. Housed in the old farmhouse, now a listed building, are the reception area and small shop, where fresh baguettes and croissants are baked every morning. Upstairs is the Coffee Barn/TV room, with views across the site to the sea. There are no restaurant facilities on the site as restaurants, cafes, takeaways and a supermarket are all within walking distance, as is the nearby beach.
Facilities at Vaugrat Camping
Well kept sanitary facilities are in two buildings. The first block is in the courtyard, with hot showers on payment (fee payable). Accessible Unit with shower, basin and toilet (six-inch step into the building). Laundry facilities. The second block near the camping fields provides toilets, washbasins and dishwashing facilities. Shop with ice pack hire and gas (open at certain times by arrangement). Coffee barn with TV and free WiFi access. Dogs are not accepted. Torches would be useful. Fully equipped tents for hire (details from site).
