On the shore of an extensive lake in the heart of the Corrèze countryside, this could be an ideal holiday base for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of watersports. The site offers 140 pitches of which 60 are for touring units, the remainder being occupied by mobile homes and chalets to rent. Trees provide shade in places, and 6A electricity connections are available (some pitches may require longer cables). Water points are rather sparse.

Nearby Marcillac-la-Croisille has a weekly market (Tues) and a few shops, including a baker’s and a grocery. The nearest sizeable town with a choice of shops, bars and restaurants is Tulle, attractively located on the Corrèze river. There are numerous marked footpaths and cycle tracks easily accessible and for those who enjoy treasure hunts, there is a well organised Geocaching scheme.

The Lac de La Valette provides a variety of watersports; alternatively you can just relax with a fishing rod (permit required) or take out a boat. To the south are the gorges of the upper reaches of the Dordogne, whilst the more frequented sites downstream such as Le Gouffres de Padirac and even Rocamadour are within reach. To the north are the pleasant little hilltop town of Egletons and the nearby Château de Ventadour dominating the Gorges de la Soudeillette.

One building provides basic facilities. One modern adapted accessible unit. Laundry area. No shop but essentials from reception. Tourist information. TV room with library and free WiFi. Playground. Children’s club twice a week (July/Aug). Table tennis, basketball and pétanque. Tennis (charged). Goat farm visits with cheese making and free tastings (July/Aug). Fishing. Direct access to lake and beach.

Directions to Terracamps Camping du Lac

Marcillac-la-Croisille is 50 km. northeast of Brive-la-Gaillarde. From A89 motorway (La Transeuropéenne) leave at exit 22 and head south on D142E and then D18 to Marcillac. Continue through village on D978 signed Tulle and Centre Touristique du Lac de la Valette then bear left on D131E1 to lake and campsite on right.
