Alan Rogers Review of Skeld Caravan Park and Campsite

Skeld Caravan Park and Campsite is a well-kept, sheltered, flat, grassy park that accommodates 15 tent pitches and 19 hard-standing pitches for caravans, motorhomes and campervans. The picturesque village of Skeld is on the West side of Shetland, and the views are spectacular. The shorescape varies from the dramatic cliffs of the outer coast to long voes (sea inlets), which extend far into the heathery hills and green croft land. Whatever the wind direction, you can always find a sheltered beach.

The old village of Skeld was bustling in the nineteenth century. Fish was landed at Skeld, salted, dried and then exported to Spain. This led to 50-60 men being employed as sailmakers, carpenters, coopers and blacksmiths. At the head of Skeld Voe is the congregational church built in 1863. You can also buy fresh shellfish from the local fishermen who often land crabs, lobsters and scallops at the pier. A local bus service which leaves once a day and connects to the main service at Bixter. This will then take you to Lerwick.
