RCN de Noordster can be found in the Dutch National Park Dwingelderveld, a beautiful expanse of moorland in the northern Netherlands. Hours of long walks though fields of purple heather and deep into ancient forests are possible here. The site offers over 300 touring pitches, all with 10A electricity, well shaded under large trees and surrounded by colourful shrubs. A range of mobile homes and chalets is available to rent, including some units specially adapted for visitors with disabilities. There are several playgrounds here and other leisure amenities include an outdoor pool (with waterslide), children’s and toddlers’ pools and various water games.
The province of Drenthe has been populated since prehistoric times and you can still see dozens of Bronze Age dolmens scattered across the landscape. The largest of these is at Borger, a small village surrounded by evidence of the ancient past. By way of complete contrast, there is a number of modern pleasure parks close at hand, such as Avonturenpark Hellendoorn, Attractiepark Slagharen or Speelstad Oranje, which is a completely covered playground.
