Alan Rogers Review of Pyla Camping
Pyla Camping is set on quite steeply sloping ground in pine forest between the Biscarosse road and the 110-metre Dune du Pyla. A major attraction here is paragliding and the site has its own launch platform above the beach. The unserviced pitches closest to the beach are very popular with paragliders. In late May, there is a festival which attracts flyers from all over Europe (at festival time the music goes on well into the night). The site’s 450 pitches are on terraces, 120 used for mobile homes to rent (mostly new, but a few are old). Of the touring pitches, 100 have 10A electricity.
The steep slope and narrow site roads with some sharp turns make this site unsuitable for large units, and this should also be borne in mind by the less mobile. The walk from the twenty or so hardstanding pitches at the bottom of the site up to reception and the bar/restaurant is quite daunting. That said, facilities here are good and there are lots of activities both on and off site. The area boasts a network of cycle and walking paths, and the site has a wide range of sporting facilities. In July and August, there is a programme of day-time and evening entertainment, and a club for children.
Facilities at Pyla Camping
Four adequate toilet blocks (one with underfloor heating when needed). Washing machines and dryers. Very well stocked shop. Large bar/restaurant with takeaway and terrace. Large heated swimming pool and paddling pool. Games room. Bicycle hire. Volleyball, basketball, football (tournaments organised in July/Aug). Entertainment in high season.
Directions to Pyla Camping
From A63 (north or south) take A660 towards Arcachon. At La Teste turn off towards Dune du Pyla and at the Dune car park roundabout take left turn towards Biscarosse. Site is 3 km. on right.
