Alan Rogers Review of Portesham Dairy Farm Campsite

On the fringes of the delightful stone-built village of Portesham, this family-run park offers a quintessential Dorset experience. Part of a small working farm, the site provides a tranquil, level retreat tucked away from the coastal bustle, yet remains perfectly positioned for exploring the Jurassic Coast.  There are roughly 110  touring pitches in total. These range from Standard Grass for the traditionalist to Hardstanding pitches, which are fully serviced with 16-Amp electric hook-up points available. Fresh water, grey waste drainage and TV aerial points are also available on select pitches.

A smart, modern reception building houses clean and functional shower and toilet facilities. Just a two-minute stroll (approx. 50 yards) brings you to Duck’s Farm Shop and Café. It is an absolute gem for campers, serving hearty breakfasts from 8 am and stocking high-quality local produce that puts supermarket fare to shame. For a glass of local ale, the King's Arms is a mere five-minute walk away, boasting an award-winning menu and a spacious garden for the children to burn off their remaining energy.  There is also a 24-hour vending area on-site for those late-night essentials.

The world-famous Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens are just a short drive (approx. 2 miles) away. A walk up to Hardy’s Monument offers perhaps the finest panoramic view of the Dorset coastline. Chesil Beach is nearby, and the classic seaside charms of Weymouth are easily accessible via the X53 Jurassic Coaster bus, which stops conveniently near the site entrance.
