Alan Rogers Review of East Balthangie Caravan Park

East Balthangie Caravan and Camping Park is a highly rated, independent, and peaceful rural campsite located in the rolling countryside of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Run by owners John and Anna, the park is known for its distinct "1950s/60s throwback vibe." It operates with a refreshing, relaxed philosophy. The site spans roughly 5 acres of flat-to-gently-sloping land, positioned about 550 to 600 feet above sea level.  It faces southeast, meaning it captures excellent sunlight throughout the day. The northern boundary is lined with trees, protecting campers from chilly coastal breezes.  Because of its remote, rural positioning, it benefits from very little light pollution. It is an excellent spot for stargazing (offering clear views of the Milky Way) and occasional viewings of the Northern Lights

The site has 20 grass pitches equipped with 16-amp electric hook-ups and dedicated water hook-up points at each station. Despite its traditional feel, the park features highly practical and well-thought-out amenities, including The Games Pavilion (The Lounge): Housed in a historic, firmly anchored World War I flying pavilion, this common room serves as a cosy indoor hub. It includes a lounge area with a TV, a "take a book, leave a book" mini-library, a pool table, table tennis, and table football (all free to use). There is also a  communal indoor space equipped with a sink (hot/cold water), microwave, electric kettles, toasters, a dining table, and chairs. There is an outside point for Primus stoves. There is also a 2-acre fully secure dog exercise field enclosed by 5-foot fencing. It includes mown pathways and undergrowth for dogs to explore safely off-lead.

There is no shop directly on site. The nearest mini-supermarkets and pubs are about a 10-minute drive away in Cuminestown or New Deer. Local takeaways (including an award-winning Indian restaurant) are known to deliver straight to the campsite. Larger supermarkets and restaurants can be found 20 minutes away in Turriff or Ellon.  Nearby Attractions: The park serves as a central base for exploring the Banffshire coast (20–25 minutes away), where you can visit sandy beaches, spot dolphins/seals, or check out historical landmarks like Delgatie Castle (10–15 mins), Fyvie Castle, and the Peterhead Prison Museum.
