Alan Rogers Review
Major works are currently underway on this site so at present no pitches are available for touring units however 3 hard standings are planned. This forest site, run by Caerphilly Council, is set in a narrow, sheltered valley with magnificent wooded slopes in the heart of Ebbw Vale, the valley not the town. The park is not only central for the many attractions of this part of Wales, but there is also much of the natural environment to enjoy including a small fishing lake. The site offers 10 pitches, these include seven all-weather pitches for tents on pea shingle, on which glamping options are available, and potentially 3 hardstandings for touring units, all with 16A electricity. Ten timber camping pods and six new timber huts have also been added and are available for hire. Wardens are on hand daily. The entrance barrier is locked between 22.00 and 07.00. Booking for all pitches is essential.
The Visitor Centre with gift shop and the Raven café and the campsite reception are open 09.00-17.00 (18.00 at weekends, Oct-Easter Fridays 09.00-16.30 pm). Please note the ‘forest drive’ is currently closed to allow the removal of disease-infected Larch trees but remains open for walking and cycling. The climb up to the Twmbarlwm ancient hill fort is well worth making with its magnificent views across the Severn to Somerset, Devon and Gloucestershire.
The single, heated toilet block includes toilet facilities for disabled visitors. Wet room (£5 deposit for key). Laundry facilities. Small hob, microwave and freezer. The Visitor Centre has a coffee shop selling refreshments and meals daily. Guided walks and the popular Twrch (9 miles) and Cafell (9 miles) mountain bike trails. Timber camping pods. Dogs accepted by prior arrangement. Large units (over 24 ft) not accepted due to access.

From the Midlands and the ‘Heads of the Valleys’ road (A465), take A467 south to Cwmcarn. Follow campsite and Visitor Centre signs. (Note: many speed bumps along the narrow driveway to the site).
