El Escorial is very large and everything on site is on a grand scale – indeed a bicycle is very useful for getting around. There are 1,358 individual pitches of which 470 are for touring units, with the remainder used for permanent or seasonal units, but situated to one side of the site. The pitches are shaded (ask for a pitch without a low tree canopy if you have a 3 m. high motorhome). An attractive area of five hectares is set aside for ‘wild camping’ in tents on open fields with good shade from mature trees (long cables may be necessary for electricity). The general amenities are comprehensive and good, and include three swimming pools (unheated), plus a paddling pool.

A central area has a bar/restaurant with a terrace, with a good array of shops and communal activity rooms. At weekends and in high season the site can be noisy. It is well situated for sightseeing visits, especially to the magnificent El Escorial monastery (5 km). Also, the enormous civil war monument of the Valle de los Caidos is very close, while both Madrid and Segovia are 50 km. away. As a contrast, the magnificent Parque Natural Sierra de Guadaramme is some 25 km.

Facilities at Caravanning El Escorial

One large toilet block for the touring pitches, plus small blocks for the ‘wild’ camping area, are all fully equipped with some washbasins in cabins. Accessible Facilities. The blocks can be heated. Large supermarket (all year). Restaurant/bar and snack bar with takeaway (w/ends and B.Hs only in low season). Meeting rooms. Disco-bar. Swimming pools (15/5-15/9). Multisports areas. Family activities (high season, weekends in low season). Two well equipped playgrounds on sand. Bicycle hire. ATM. Car wash. WiFi in some areas (free).

Directions to Caravanning El Escorial

From the south go through town of El Escorial, and follow M600 Guadarrama road. Site is between the 2 and 3 km. markers north of the town on the right. From the north use A6 autopista exit 47 to M600 towards El Escorial town. Site is on the left.
