This is a tiny, homely site run by the cheerful Simon and his charming wife Macu, (both speaking some English), who are determined that you will enjoy your stay. The site is on three levels (with a slightly steep gravel track to the gates) with space for 29 tents, caravans or medium sized motorhomes. All the pitches are marked, level and on gravel with electricity (6A), but with little privacy. The site is unspoilt and has much rustic charm with the family house providing the focal point. Attractive trees and shrubs around the site include olives, figs, mimosa and cacti, but provide little shade.

Reception is a pretty little room in the front section of the quaint house and a few steps take you into a small, Spanish bar. There are informal ‘al fresco’ gatherings and late barbecues on the lovely ‘barbacoa’ (terrace), especially at Christmas! On the lower level is a good quality play area for 2-10 year olds. We recommend the site for the more mature camper who wishes to get away from it all and be very much within a family atmosphere. Lots of British campers winter here (70%). Simon is licensed to rescue baby tortoises and return them later to the wild. He takes a delight in showing guests his current residents. Some pitches near the road may experience a small amount of traffic noise.

The small sanitary block is very clean and fully equipped. Hot showers assisted by solar power. Accessible facilities. Basic laundry facilities. Bar. Breakfast available in summer and the baker calls at 10.30 daily. Torch useful. Free WiFi over site.

Directions to Camping Sopalmo

Exit from main coast road (N340) at exit 520 (northeast of Almeria). Take the AL152 (formerly A150) to Mojacar Playa and continue south towards Carboneras. Site is 6 km. south of Mojacar Playa, signed off the road.
