Alan Rogers Review of Camping Rijsterbos

Camping Rijsterbos is a family site in the centre of the village of Rijs. The site has 200 pitches, with 40 for tourers arranged on four level fields, to the left of reception, each taking ten units. All have 6A electricity, water and cable and there is some shade from mature trees. The other pitches are taken by seasonal guests. The touring pitches are next to the main road, which may cause some noise nuisance. To the front of the site is a welcoming bar/restaurant and behind reception is a heated, open-air pool (20x15 m).

Camping Rijsterbos is in the southern part of Friesland in a woodland area known as Gaasterland, so it is a good base for walking and cycling. The IJselmeer is only 2 km. where watersports are plentiful. The Rijsterbos nature park is next door, and nearby are De Wilde Merke and De Bremer Wildernis nature parks. The Sybrandy play park for children is 2 km.

The heated toilet block (looking old, but smelling clean) has toilets, washbasins and showers. Family shower. Accessible Facilities. Washing machines and dryer. Basics and fresh bread from reception. Bar/restaurant with terrace. Heated open-air pool (May-Sept). Entertainment team in high season. Large screen TV in the bar.

Directions to Camping Rijsterbos

From the A6, take exit 17 for Lemmer and continue west on N359 road. Turn south towards Sondel, then Nijemirdum, Oudemirdum and then Rijs. Site is in the centre of Rijs on the left and is easy to miss.
