This is a delightful site next to a small lake in a wetland nature reserve, surrounded by tree-clad slopes with views of distant mountain peaks. Such peaceful locations are rare. The very friendly Cremella family are all involved in the running of the site and their welcome is warm and genuine. The 195 touring pitches (all with 3-6A electricity) are on gravel hardstanding or grass. The restaurant, with a bar and terrace, offers a range of Italian dishes and pizzas to eat in or take away. There is a well maintained swimming pool and a paddling pool with safety precautions.

The lake and surrounding small nature reserve provide opportunities for fishing, swimming, walking, birdwatching and paddling your own canoe! The site is only a short distance from Porlezza on Lake Lugano, and eight kilometres in the other direction is Menággio on Lake Como, with regular boat connections to many points on the lake. A short walk along the lakeside takes you to the visitor centre and a bar/restaurant; if you prefer not to drive to the nearby supermarket, it is possible to reach it by continuing along the shore of Lake Piano.

Facilities at Camping Ranocchio

Two sanitary blocks provide excellent modern facilities with warm water to some washbasins; showers are token operated. Good accessible facilities. Baby rooms. Motorhome services. Washing machines. Bar (15/4-30/9). Restaurant/takeaway (15/4-15/9). Pool is charged for (€ 1) but always supervised (15/6-15/9). Gas supplies. Fishing, swimming from small shingle beach (fence and gate, but young children would need watching). WiFi in reception (charged).

Directions to Camping Ranocchio

Carlazzo is on the SS340, 6 km. from Porlezza. Ranocchio is clearly signed. Turn right in the centre of the village, keep right and the site is at the bottom of the lane. The SS340 is very narrow and winding, especially on the Porlezza-Lugano section. The road from Menággio is better.
