Alan Rogers Review of Camping Punta d’Oro
Camping Punta d’Oro, just outside the town of Iseo in the southeast corner of the lake, is a small, tranquil campsite. It has been run by the Zatti-Brescianini family for the last thirty years and you will receive a very warm welcome on arrival. The very pretty site slopes gently down to the lake. It has 62 grass pitches (plus two static caravans for hire) all with 3-5A electricity connections. Trees and shrubs provide some shade and there are lovely views across the lake to the mountains. Lakeside pitches are a little more expensive. There is some occasional noise from the nearby railway.
On the tree-clad slopes of the opposite shore, small villages shelter down by the water and further mountains rise behind the site. It is a good centre for exploring the lake and Monte Isola, (Italy’s largest lake island) by ferry from Iseo. For the more energetic, the ascent of Monte Gugliemo (1,949 m) beckons and is reported to take about three and a half hours. With no entertainment programme, this site could well suit those who are looking for a very pleasant base without the bustle of a larger site.
Facilities at Camping Punta d’Oro
The two small sanitary blocks have been refurbished to a high standard with a mix of British and squat style WCs and hot water in washbasins and showers. Suite with accessible facilities, All facilities are kept very clean. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Shop. Small bar serving a limited range of snacks. Social room. TV in bar. Access to lake for swimming and fishing with two narrow slipways for boat launching. Bicycle hire arranged. Internet access and free WiFi.
Directions to Camping Punta d’Oro
Leave A4 Milan-Venice autostrada at Rovato, turn left to roundabout and go north on SPXI following signs for Lago di Iseo. Avoid town centre and continue to the roundabout where several campsites are signed. Take the exit leading back into town, right at next roundabout, over the railway and first right. Well signed.
