Locarno in Ticino, the most southern of the Swiss cantons, is a very popular holiday area with activities associated with lakes and mountains. Being in the north west of Locarno, Avegno is also a good base from which to visit Lake Maggiore and this part of northern Italy. There are a number of very good sites around, and we add this one to give as much choice as possible. During our stay we were impressed with the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Peace and quiet is encouraged, so not a site for those who like to socialise late into the evening.

The lively social life revolves around the central bar/restaurant and terrace. However, all noise has to cease at 23.00. The 240 tourist pitches (all with 6A electricity) are on two level terraces in a river valley, marked by numbered stones set into the ground. Spaces are not over-large but seem to suffice.

Facilities at Camping Piccolo Paradiso

Three sanitary blocks well spaced around the site should suffice. Hot showers on payment. Accessible facilities, Washing machines and dryers. Motorhome services. Self-service bar/restaurant (mainly Italian-style fast food) with terrace (15/6-15/9). Shade in parts. Paddling pool and play area. TV room. River bathing (summer). Boating. Fishing. Entertainment in high season. WiFi (free).
