Alan Rogers Review of Camping Naturiste de la Sablière
Spectacularly situated in the Cèze Gorges, this well equipped, spacious naturist site, tucked away within its wild and dramatic terrain offers a wide variety of facilities, all within a really peaceful, wooded setting.
There are 504 pitches, 240 for touring. Many are large and most have electricity (10A). Long leads and rock pegs may possibly be needed. Nudity is only obligatory around the pool complex. There are long and steep walks between many pitches and the facilities. Cars can be used in low season and there is a shuttle service in July and August. Large outfits not advised. Only gas and electric barbecues on site.
An excellent pool complex (dynamited out of the hill and built in local style) provides a children’s pool area and two large pools, one of which is heated and can be covered by a sliding dome, sunbathing terraces, saunas and a bar. A large variety of activities are provided including book binding, silk painting pottery and yoga and there is a new area for jam making. This is a family run and orientated site and the owner, Gaby Cespedes, provides a personal touch that is unusual in a large site. This contributes to the relaxed, informal atmosphere and first-time naturists would find this a gentle introduction to naturism.

Six good open-plan unisex sanitary blocks. Naturist style baths and accessible facilities. Laundry. Good supermarket. Bar, excellent open-air, covered restaurant and takeaway, and small café/crêperie (all open until 25/9). Swimming pool complex. Fitness room. TV room. Disco. Tennis. New minigolf. Play areas. River bathing. Fitness trail. Archery. Activities and full entertainment programme. Only gas and electric barbecues allowed. Free WiFi at reception.
Directions to Camping Naturiste de la Sablière
From Alès take D16 then D979 northeast towards Barjac. 5 km. beyond St Jean-de-Maruéjols turn right D266 signed St Privat. After 3 km. turn right at junction and for site. Site is 5 km. along winding lane.
