In a valley on the northern side of the pleasant little town of Vimoutiers, which is on both the Normandy cheese and cider routes, this is a delightful municipal site. The 36 pitches are flat and grassy, separated by laurel hedging and laid out amongst attractive and well maintained flower and shrub beds. There is some shade around the perimeter and all pitches have electricity (8A). Also, there are four mobile homes to rent. The town is famous for its cheese and has a Camembert museum. Nearby, at Mont-Ormel, the events of the Falaise Gap are brought vividly to life.

La Campière enjoys a great sense of spaciousness, overlooking the town’s sports fields and tennis courts and with a pleasant park on the other side of the road. The shops, bars and restaurants of Vimoutiers are just five minutes’ walk away and there is a supermarket even closer. For the energetic, there is a Parcours Santé (a fitness course) in parkland alongside the River Vie to the south of the town and a cycle route to the east heads off into the delightful countryside of the Pays d’Auge. Motorists can, of course, enjoy even more of this region’s delights; to the south is the village of Camembert, whilst to the north is Livarot, home of another of France’s favourite cheeses. A little further away, but still within easy reach, is Lisieux which has an impressive basilica dedicated to Sainte Thérèse.

Facilities

The central sanitary block, although rather dated, is clean and heated. It provides open washbasins, good sized, well designed showers, children’s toilets and accessible facilities. Play area.

Location

Vimoutiers is 50 km. east of Caen. Site is on northern edge of town, on the main Lisieux-Argentan road (D517/D916), next to large sports complex.
