Camping Lou Payou is a quiet site located at the heart of the Landes, between the vast pine forests and the broad Atlantic beaches. There are just 27 touring pitches on well drained, sandy grass, each separated by maturing hedges. Some trees have been planted to provide shade on the pitches. All have electricity (6A) and most have water. The toilets and showers have recently been refurbished in the traditional French style. An outdoor swimming pool with small sunbathing terrace complements the small play area for children. A good stopover and value-for-money site close to the N10 and within 30 km. of the Atlantic beaches.

Lou Payou with its small snack bar and pétanque area is ideally located away from the hustle of the busy coast, but close enough for a day trip to the sandy beaches of the Côte Landaise. Each resort offers a supervised bathing area in high season, and the beaches are massive, so overcrowding is never a problem. This part of the Atlantic coast is widely renowned as Europe’s surfing capital, with plenty of tuition on hand if needed. The Landes pine forest also has many of France’s largest lakes, often providing sheltered bathing and their own sandy beaches. The Basque towns of Biarritz and Bidart are an hour’s drive away, and the Spanish border is a little further.

One small, recently refurbished sanitary block has free preset showers. Washing machine. Snack bar and takeaway. Bread and pastries daily. Swimming pool. Solarium. Play area. Pétanque. Free WiFi.

Directions to Camping Lou Payou

Head south from Bordeaux on N10 towards Bayonne and Biarritz. Exit the N10 at exit 13 and turn left on D41 towards Rion des Landes. Follow signs to the site 1 km. away on left.
