Alan Rogers Review
Lou Castel is attractively located close to Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, at the heart of the Périgord Noir, and close to many of the region’s major attractions. There are 115 stony pitches here with just a little grass, 40 are available for touring under oak trees which provide good shade. All have electricity (10A). A range of mobile homes, chalets and bungalow style tents are available for hire. The pool complex is impressive with three water slides, two swimming pools and a separate children’s paddling pool. There is a bar/restaurant with a large terrace which is used for entertainment in peak season.
Various activities are organised at Lou Castel, including hot air ballooning, riding, rock climbing and, of course, canoe trips on the nearby river Dordogne. Castelnaud is still dominated by its superb medieval fortress, which faces its rival, the castle at Beynac, on the other side of the Dordogne. The castle houses an interesting exhibition of medieval siege engines and a museum on medieval warfare.
