A family run site, Les Fosses Rouges was created in 1968 on the 3.5 hectares of fields owned by the present owner’s grandfather. Since it was built, the site has been surrounded by urban development, but nevertheless it is still a good value and well presented, if compact, site. There are 248 well hedged, small pitches, most with some shade and electricity (10A). Some 65 are used for mobile homes, both private and rental. There are also some seasonal or long-stay tourers. There is a good swimming pool and a separate sports and games area on the opposite side of the road.

The site offers some low key entertainment in the main season. Nearby are the zoo and seashell museum at Les Sables d’Olonne, the fascinating salt pans and the museum of modern art at the Abbaye Sainte-Croix.

Facilities at Camping les Fosses Rouges

Four colourful, if rather dated, toilet blocks in traditional style are evenly distributed around the site. Washbasins in cubicles for ladies, pushbutton showers. Accessible Facilities. Washing machine at two blocks. Bar and takeaway (July/Aug). Shop (15/5-26/9). Motorhome services. Swimming pool (heated, open all season and covered when necessary). Playground. Tennis. Volleyball. Boules. Minigolf. Giant chess. Bicycle hire. Open-air stage for entertainment. Internet access and WiFi (charged). Communal barbecue areas.

Directions to Camping les Fosses Rouges

Site is southeast of Les Sables d’Olonne between the D949 and the sea. From large roundabout by supermarket on D949 turn towards sea on Ave Dugay Trouin (La Pironnière). Do not use sat nav for final approach. Continue straight on at mini-roundabout and in 150 m. turn left into rue des Fosses Rouges to site in 500 m.
