If you are looking for a different experience more in tune with nature, you will perhaps enjoy Les Fontaines. The present owners took over a very run down site in 2003 and have spent much time, energy and money on improving it. The site itself borders La Réserve Naturelle de l’Etang de Canet-Saint Nazaire and is set amongst open fields with views of the Canigou and other mountains. Of the 160 pitches, 60 are for tourers and are large and level with 10A electricity and water. The trees are maturing, but the pitches have little shade; it could, therefore, be very hot in high season, so the pool is a very welcome addition.

The family have also developed a small farm (which is a great attraction for children) where fallow deer run naturally and other animals seem to lead a very contented life. You may see large green lizards or rollier birds on site. It is possible to walk to the Etang, which is an important migration point for birds. Children can learn about the various birds and other aspects of nature and even the entertainment has a local feel with Catalan folk music and communal ‘paellas’.

An unusual white castellated building houses a fully equipped sanitary block. Baby bath. Accessible Facilities. Washing machine. Basic essentials are sold in reception. Bar/restaurant (1/7-30/8). Swimming pool with paddling pool (1/6-15/9). Communal barbecues (only gas or electric on pitch). Play area. Farm to visit. Mobile homes to rent. WiFi in reception area.

Directions to Camping les Fontaines

Leave A9 at Perpigan Nord and follow directions for Canet for 20 km. Then pick up the D11 Perpigan road and take first exit (5) for Canet village. Go under bridge, straight over roundabout and continue for 1.5 km. to site on left.
