Camping Les Craoues is situated In the Midi-Pyrénées and the Hautes-Pyrénées. You may well guess that the setting is relatively mountainous among spectacular scenery, close to the peaks, lakes and forests of the Pyrenees National Park, and within 40 minutes drive of the world-famed pilgrimage centre of Lourdes. You could, of course, take to the car to see as much as possible of this spectacular landscape. Still, the Craoues team recommends taking yourself off cycling, hiking and fishing instead (stopping off frequently to snap a plethora of pictures).

The owners also know you might appreciate a relaxing time after a day out and about doing that, so they have added a pool for guests to spend an hour or two in or by and a new reading room with wi-fi. To ensure you are fully recharged in between all the mountain climbing, cycling and hiking, the site has also laid on many facilities for children, including a play area with a trampoline, seesaws, slides, a games room and space all around to run and play. Boules, volleyball and table tennis tournaments are held regularly. Once fully refreshed and the sun is sinking, stroll to the site garden for “happy hour” and themed dinners with live music and karaoke, all run by the friendly team. The site has 79 pitches, of which 48 are for touring units. There are also mobile homes and chalets available to hire.

High mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests and cliffs all make up the nearby Pyrénées National Park, for long days of sightseeing, nature spotting, walking and cycling. If you are taking to the area on your own two feet, the most popular trail of the park is from Gabas to the mountain peak at Pic du Midi d'Ossau; be sure to source a plentiful supply of Gabas cheese in town for your hiking picnic.

Location

From the A64/E80 motorway leave at junction 15 Capvern. At the roundabout after the toll station take the second exit to join the D817 Rue Goutillou towards Capvern. The site entrance is adjacent to the next roundabout
