Are you dreaming of an active beach-side getaway? You’ll sleep like a baby at Camping le Tropicana, a family-friendly site in a wooded area 10 minutes’ drive from Saint-Jean-de-Monts in the Vendée area of Pays de la Loire.

Le Tropicana is a paradise for watersports – head to Saint-Jean-de-Monts for stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking and canoeing, swim over to the beach five minutes from the site or stay on-site to splash around the three outdoor pools (and one indoor pool) and the waterslides.

If you’d prefer to stay dry, there’s plenty on-site to keep you entertained: work out in the gym, tennis or table tennis, pétanque or head to the multisports field for a game, then unwind in the wellness centre’s sauna, steam room or hot tub.

If you fancy exploring the surrounding area, follow the walking and cycling trails into the woods, or go to Nelly’s Ranch to hack around the nearby forests and beaches on horseback.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can grab a table at the bar and restaurant instead of cooking for yourself. Otherwise, if you want a break from cooking there are plenty of restaurants within easy reach.

This part of Vendée is a treasure trove of theme parks, water parks and amusement parks to keep you busy. Beau Land Park’s fairground rides are only five minutes drive from Camping le Tropicana, as is Atlantic Toboggan waterpark, and Explora Parc’s treetop adventures are 15 minutes away. Noirmoutier is 40 minutes from the site for the Océanile waterpark. Then stick around for the l’Île aux Papillions (butterfly gardens), the aquarium, the château's and many beaches.
