This friendly, family run site is set in spectacular mountain scenery close to the head of la Vallée de Lumière in the Pyrenees, making it an ideal base from which to explore the Parc National des Pyrénées and to visit the Col du Tourmalet and the Cirque de Gavarnie. Winter sports enthusiasts have a choice of three ski stations with cross-country skiing, snow-boarding and snow-biking among the options. There are 125 level, grassy pitches, of which 89 are available for touring units and electrical connections (2-10A, Europlug) are charged accordingly. The nearby mountain resort of Luz-Saint-Sauveur has shops, bars and restaurants and is the starting point for many activities.

The area offers a wealth of opportunities for the energetic and adventurous visitor, including climbing, canyoning, rafting, parascending, bungee-jumping and watersports. At the head of the valley is the little village of Gèdre, with a shop and restaurants and you will find a wider choice if you make your way back down the valley to Pierrefitte-Nestalas and Argelès-Gazost, where you can also visit the Parc Animaliers des Pyrenees. Other days out could include an outing to join the pilgrims at Lourdes, or a visit to the market town of Tarbes or to historic Pau.

Directions to Camping le Hounta

Sassis is 180 km. southwest of Toulouse. From A64 at exit 12 (Tarbes) head south on N21 to Lourdes, then D821 (Bagnères/Argelès) and follow signs for Argelès-Gazost, then Luz-St Sauveur (D100). Finally turn right on D12 1.5 km. past Sassis to site on left.
