Camping la Presqu’ile du Puech des Ouilhes
France, Auvergne, Cantal, Lacapelle-Viescamp
Alan Rogers Review
La Presqu’île du Puech des Ouilhes is a small, family site located on a peninsula within the large Saint Etienne Cantales lake. There are 76 pitches set amongst mature trees, of which 68 have electrical connections. There are 21 chalets/simple camping huts (without bathrooms) available to rent. On-site amenities include a heated swimming pool (with attractive sun terrace) and adjacent paddling pool. A number of activities are focused on the lake, including canoeing, windsurfing and fishing. Other activities include archery and themed meals once a week in high season. This is excellent walking country with a number of long distance footpaths passing close to the site.
The Plomb du Cantal mountain (1858 m.) affords magnificent views across the surrounding Cantal countryside. Mountain biking is also very popular. There are many ruined castles to explore in this part of the Auvergne, and the 13th-century château at Alleuze is amongst the more impressive. Fishing in the lake (562 hectares), with or without the hire of a boat from the site, is a popular activity. Fishing tuition is available in peak season. A windsurfing school is next door to the site. A new walkway (suitable for wheelchair users) has been constructed alongside the lake.
Separate toilet and shower facilities for men and women. Laundry facilities. Shop (July/Aug). Takeaway. Outdoor heated swimming pool. Paddling pool. Play area. Fishing (boat available and tuition during high season). Watersports. Tennis. Chalets and mobile homes to rent. Torches useful. WiFi around bar area.
LocationThe site can be found to the west of Aurillac. From there, head west on D120 and follow signs to Puech des Ouilhes. Continue through Lacapelle-Viescamp and follow signs to Base de Loisirs. Link to campsite location map on google
