Alan Rogers Review of Camping la Garrofa
One of the earliest sites in Spain (dating back to 1957), la Garrofa nestles in a cove with a virtually private beach accessed only by sea or through the campsite. It is rather dramatic with the tall mountain cliffs behind. Many of the rather small 100 flat and sloping sandy pitches are shaded, with some very close to the beach and sea. Eighty have 6/10A electricity. An old fortress looks down on the campsite – you can walk to it via a valley at the back of the site and across an old Roman bridge. Other walks directly from the site include a Roman road providing fine coastal views.
La Garrofa was let for many years but is now back in the hands of the original family owners who are returning this rustic site to its full potential. The impact of the high road bridges to the back of the site is minimal and the sound you are most likely to hear is the noise of the waves or the cicadas (cricket like insects) singing in the many eucalyptus trees. There is a small restaurant that serves decent food in a rather relaxed way. It is all very relaxed here and that is part of its rather unique and simple charm.
Facilities at Camping la Garrofa
