Camping la Bastide is a mixture of woodland and shrubs, and some renovation work was still in progress when we visited. An excellent aqua park has been installed as well as a number of smart new mobile homes. The 87 level grass pitches are arranged in circles; 38 have electricity connections (16A), while five luxury pitches are fully equipped with tables and chairs and a fridge. The historical city of Nîmes is close by and public buses stop at the site entrance. For a small charge, motorhomes can park by reception for the day. Good English is spoken.

The Roman Arena, the Temple of Diana and the Maison Carrée all reflect the importance of the city of Nîmes in antiquity. During the ‘férias’ of Pentecost and Harvest you can enjoy the festive atmosphere and experience the traditions and folklore of the Camargue. The area is rich in historical sites, notably the impressive Roman aqueduct, le Pont du Gard; other visits could include Avignon, Arles and Uzès. Aigues Mortes and the fashionable Mediterranean beaches of Le Grau-du-Roi and La Grande-Motte are also within reach. In complete contrast you can head north-west into the mountains of the Parc National des Cévennes.

Restaurant and bar (fresh bread, limited hours in low season). Heated swimming and paddling pools with 3 large slides (April-End Sept). Entertainment (July/Aug). Clapou Club (4-12 yrs). Morning aquatic sessions. Evening parties/dances (July/Aug). Play area. Bouncy castle. Boules pitch. Minigolf. WiFi. No charcoal barbecues.

Directions to Camping la Bastide

Site is 6 km. south of Nîmes. From A9 motorway leave at exit 25 (Nîmes-Ouest) and at roundabout head west then south-west on N113 (Monpellier). In 3.5 km. turn south at traffic lights onto D613 (not signed), keep right at roundabout to site (signed) on right in 500 m.
