La Ballena Alegre is a spacious site with almost 2 km. of frontage directly onto an excellent beach of soft golden sand (which is cleaned daily). They claim that none of the 846 touring pitches is more than 100 m. from the beach. The grass pitches are individually numbered, separated by hedges and there is a choice of size (up to 120 sq.m). Electrical connections (10A) are available to all and there are 670 fully serviced pitches. There are several bungalow areas within the site with their own small pools and play areas, and some have shared jacuzzis. This is a great site for families.

There are restaurant and bar areas beside the pleasant terraced pool complex (four pools including a pool for children). For those who wish to drink and snack late there is a pub open until 03.00. The well managed, soundproofed disco is popular with youngsters. A little train ferries people along the length of the site and a road train runs to local villages. Plenty of entertainment and activities are offered, including a well managed watersports centre, with sub-aqua, windsurfing and kite-surfing, where equipment can be hired and lessons taken. You can also use a comprehensive open-air fitness centre near the beach. A full entertainment programme is provided all season. An overflow area across the road provides additional parking and sports activities. The site has won Spanish tourist board awards and the owners are keen to promote an ecological approach through recycling, use of solar energy and the design of new buildings.

A comprehensive range of restaurants, snack bars and takeaways, including a pizzeria/trattoria, arroceria, a pub, a self-service restaurant and a beach bar in high season. Swimming pool complex. Jacuzzi. Tennis. Watersports centre. Wellness and fitness centre. Bicycle hire. Playgrounds. Soundproofed disco. Dancing twice weekly and organised activities, sports, entertainment, etc. ATM. Dogs only allowed in one zone. Internet and WiFi (charged). Torches useful in beach areas.

Directions to Camping la Ballena Alegre

From A7 Figueres-Girona autopista take exit 5 to L’Escala GI623 for 18.5 km. At roundabout take sign to Sant Marti d’Empúries and follow site signs.
