Alan Rogers Review of Camping Kato Alissos
Kato Alissos can be found 21 km. west of Patras, the capital of the Peloponnese and has direct access to a long beach. This is an attractive but basic site with lemon, orange and olive trees providing a pleasant camping environment. At the heart of the site, the bar/restaurant specialises in traditional Greek cuisine and has welcome shade from a giant olive tree, said to be over 1,000 years old.
There is another bar that has fine panoramic views across Patraikos Bay. Pitches here are well shaded and all are equipped with electrical connections. Various activities are organised throughout the season, including Greek folk music and dancing.
Patras is Greece’s third-largest city and worth a visit. The city is home to Saint Andrew’s church, the largest in the Balkans. Further afield, Ancient Olympia is one of the great sites of Greek antiquity and is highly recommended. Alternatively, Kalavrita is a delightful hilltop town, renowned for the monasteries of Mega Spileo and Saint Lavra, and best visited by the scenic Odontotos railway.
