On the shore of an extensive lake, surrounded by 250 hectares of pine forest and close to the long, sandy beaches of the Atlantic ocean, Huttopia Lac de Carcans has plenty to offer lovers of the great outdoors, whilst being within easy reach of the châteaux and vineyards of Médoc and the bustling city of Bordeaux. The site has 280 pitches on sandy soil among the pine trees, with accommodation available in well equipped canvas tents on wooden platforms. Lac d’Hourtin-Carcans is France’s largest freshwater lake and provides numerous opportunities for water-based activities, whilst the Forêt Domaniale de Bombannes has a network of footpaths and over 120 km. of cycle tracks.

The Réserve Naturelle des Dunes et des Marais d’Hourtin lies to the north and the beaches of Carcans and Lacanau are an easy drive (or ride) through the pine forest. To the east Castelnau-de-Médoc and Saint-Laurent-Médoc are the closest of the many towns and villages worth visiting in this important wine-producing area; beyond these lies the western shore of the Garonne Estuary. To the south is Lège-Cap-Ferret at the northern point of the Bay of Arcachon, whilst from Le Verdon-sur-Mer to the north a ferry crosses to Royan.

Directions to Camping Huttopia Lac de Carcans

Bombannes is 60 km. northwest of Bordeaux. From north on A10 continue onto Rocade A630 towards airport (Mérignac). From south on A62 or A63 head west on Rocade towards airport. Leave at exit 8 and head north on D1215 towards Lacanau. After Ste. Hélène turn north on D104/D207 to Carcans and continue to Maubuisson. At roundabout turn north to Domaine de Bombannes and campsite.
