Alan Rogers Review of Camping des Gayeulles
Camping des Gayeulles is an open all year site situated on the northern edge of Rennes Ille-et-Vilaine. The site is in a forest park with a small lake, paddleboats, treetop adventure park, hiking tracks, miniature golf, a bar/brewery and a health club. A municipal swimming pool is also a short walk away. Rambles around the old streets of the town and Place Sainte-Anne will allow you to buy fresh produce at the market, potter around the Museum of Brittany and sampling cider and galettes. Rennes is under 10 minutes away by car, 25 minutes by bus, about 20 minutes by bike along the Ille-et-Rance canal. The site’s location means you should get out and about around Brittany while here too. Options, include Saint-Malo and Cancale under an hour’s drive towards the north coast, Fougères 35 minutes to the southeast and Vitré 40 minutes east. And quite a few smaller towns and teeny villages for more sampling of Breton culture. The site has 117 touring pitches with 16-amp hook-up point and 18 Lodges available to hire.
Get to Rennes with ease too, by hailing the C3 bus from the stop 500 metres from the gate. Services are every 10 minutes. The Thabor botanical gardens are a pleasant place for a peaceful time, as are the gardens around the university and the walks by the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance to the city’s northwest. For day trips, a fine château is at Fougères (35 minutes’ drive), even small and reluctant historians should like it. .
