In the heart of the Oise valley, close to Chantilly and within striking distance of Paris, Camping de l’Abbatiale consists of a small traditional campsite of 30 pitches, a section with 25 mobile homes to rent and a large area of 245 pitches devoted to residential and seasonal units. Ten pitches have hardstanding, the rest are on level grass including a pleasant little group, separated by hedges, round a central grassy area with a covered picnic table. Electricity (6A) and water connections are available, and five have their own electric connection, tap and drain. Mature trees offer some shade in places.

Nearby is a lake with swimming, fishing and boating, the banks of the River Oise are within walking distance and a large Natural Park is a short drive away. The impressive abbey from which the site takes its name, now the parish church, stands on a hill overlooking the valley. The town has a number of shops, bars and restaurants, and there is a market each Saturday; there is also a train service which will get you to Paris in less than an hour. The nearby Château de la Guesdière is worth a visit and there are numerous parks and several ‘Forêts Domaniales’ in the area. The attractive town of Chantilly is an easy drive away and offers a wider choice of places to eat and shop.

Facilities

Traditional sanitary block with doors opening onto the outside; washbasins in cubicles and pushbutton showers. Basic en-suite accessible unit. In winter pitches in the residential area are used close to heated toilet block (very basic). Washing machine and dryer in this block. Motorhome service point. Bread to order. Butcher calls. Volleyball, football and pétanque. Communal room. Small play area for young children. Communal barbecue. WiFi throughout (free).

Location

St Leu is 45 km. due north of Paris. From A1 motorway exit 8 (Senlis) and head northwest on D1330 to by-pass town and continue to Creil. Turn south on D1016 towards Chantilly and at roundabout turn west on D44 to St Leu d’Esserent. After crossing river, bear right and then at lights turn sharp left (site signed from here). Bear right up hill then follow road to left to site on left.
