A visit to the medieval city of Carcassonne is a must and Camping de la Cité is within walking distance along a shaded footpath beside a stream. The majority of pitches are very large, separated by hedges and with good shade. There are also some undefined places under trees for small tents. In total there are 200 with 143 for touring, 95 having 10A electricity and the rest used for mobile homes and chalets to hire. Because of its situation it is very popular and you need to arrive early in the high season. A swimming pool, snack bar/restaurant make this a very comfortable and useful site. There is no shop, but the bar stocks essentials.
It is a neat and tidy site that is very well organised. A shuttle bus (charge) runs to the town centre during the high season. There are also good facilities for children with activities and sports organized in July and August. The Black mountain is to the north, the Corbières to the east, the Pyrénées to the south and the beaches of the Mediterranean only 70 km. If you are there for Bastille Day (14 July), there is a magnificent fireworks display covering the citadel.
