Enjoying a good position on the banks of the River Loire, with gentle slopes down to a sandy beach, Camping d’Arpheuilles is a good choice for an active family holiday and the new owners are busy making many improvements. The river is wide and shallow here, resembling a very long lake, fed from the foothills of the Massif Central. There are 87 pitches, 76 are generous, slightly sloping, grass pitches for tourers, the majority having 6A electricity. Twenty are reserved for tents. Some pitches have good views over the river and canoes are available for hire.
Many guests will use this site to take a break en route to the Mediterranean. However, the low tariff makes it an attractive option for a longer stay. The important wine towns of Macon and Beaune and the Beaujolais vineyards are all close at hand. The ancient trading town of Roanne is around 12 miles to the north, and the imposing hills to the east are perfect for trekking and mountain biking.
