Camping Danica Bohinj
Slovenia, Bohinjska Bistrica
Alan Rogers Review
Danica Bohinj is an ideal campsite for those wishing to visit the famous Bohinj valley, which stretches like a fjord right into the heart of the Julian Alps. It nestles in the valley 3 km downstream of Lake Bohinjsko and is spacious, stretching from the main road to the banks of the Sava river on a flat meadow set in natural woodland. All around are tree-covered hills and lush vegetation - this really is spectacular scenery. The nearest village is just a few hundred metres away.
This excellent riverside site has 165 informally laid out grassy pitches, mostly with some shade from the attractive leafy trees dotted around the site. Some 145 are for touring units (all with 16A electricity). This is an ideal base from which to enjoy the many sporting activities the area has to offer. Triglav National Park is not far, with wonderful bike trails, and the reception is well supplied with maps and tourist information as well as helpful advice on the state of the various mountain trails.
For those wishing to travel south towards Tolmin, Nova Gorica or Trieste, there is a car train that travels from Bohinjska Bistrica to Podbrdo. Although the train journey takes only a few minutes, it may be preferable to the mountain road with its steep, narrow inclines climbing to 1,277 metres.
Three good toilet blocks with open-plan washbasins and hot showers. Facilities for disabled visitors. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Bar. Café. Fresh bread (July/Aug). Tennis. Fishing. Badminton. Volleyball. Cross-country skiing from the site. Bicycle hire. Free WiFi over the site. Excursions in the Triglavski National Park.
Driving from Bled to Bohinj, in Bohinjska Bistrica stay on main road (it goes to the right). Site is 200 m. on the right-hand (north) side of the road.Link to campsite location map on google
