Alan Rogers Review of Camping Caledonia

Caledonia has an unfortunate setting on farmland between the A7 autoroute and the busy railway, where the noise of each is in competition across the site. The touring pitches are smallish and at the western end of the site and overhead national grid power lines dissect the access road. The small pitches and site roads with tight concrete wall squeezes are unsuitable for large units. The 60 touring pitches offer 6A electricity, but there are no accessible facilities and the site is unsuitable for unfit campers. There is a unpleasant smell from the sewage unit at the western end of the touring pitches.

There is a large pool (lifeguard) and separate paddling pool in front of the small restaurant bar and shop. The beach is around a kilometre away and the local village provides the usual facilities. A basic children’s playground is provided with a selection of dated but safe toys and the picnic area has one barbecue for campers. The owners offer a private laundry service.

Facilities at Camping Caledonia

Three very small wooden sanitary blocks close to the touring pitches, but in busy periods we believe these will be overwhelmed. The chemical disposal points are inadequate. No washing machines. Restaurant and bar (open all season). Shop with basics. Outdoor pool with separate paddling pool. Limited entertainment programme in high season. Boules. Ping pong. Five-a-side. WiFi. Internet access (charged). Pets accepted. Bus at gate. Torches useful.

Directions to Camping Caledonia

From A7 take exit 32 towards Tarragona and continue for 4.5 km. At roundabout (km. 1172) turn back towards Atafulla/Tamarit. Site is 200m. on the right, well signed.
