Alan Rogers Review of Barrow Campsite

Barrow Campsite Nairn is a peaceful family run site on a working farm ideally situated between Nairn and Inverness, with stunning countryside views. A great base to explore the Highlands and at the start of some truly amazing routes like the North Coast 500. A family friendly site with an idyllic pond, Bronze Age Monument and plenty of dog walks, within ten minutes of Nairn town and beach, 25 minutes to Inverness. The site is also a great base to explore the Highlands with plenty of sights to visit in the local area including the Malt Whisky Trail and the Highland Tourist Route. The site has 32 hardstanding each with 10-amp electric hook up point and 26 grass pitches of which 9 have 10-amp electric hook-up point. There are also two glamping pods available to hire.

Historical hotspots are rife in this part of Scotland. Hike to Cawdor Castle and Gardens in an hour and a half, then travel to Culloden Battlefield visitor centre and interactive exhibition (15 minutes' drive) to see the setting of the famed Jacobite Rising’s last battle. The 18th-century Fort George is about the same distance for gazing at an awe-inspiring selection of arms, including muskets, pikes and ammunition pouches. More places to poke around in the past from museums to castles are in Inverness (25 minutes), which is also the gateway to Loch Ness (45 minutes). Drive or dawdle along the banks while trying to catch a glimpse of the fabled monster, stopping by the ruins of Castle Urquhart (55 minutes).

Directions to Barrow Campsite

Location Directions.

From Inverness turn right off the A96 towards Cawdor and Cawdor Castle. After 1 mile, in the tiny village of Clephanton, turn left onto the B9091. Follow this road for 2.5 miles until you see the site sign on your right-hand side. From Nairn after 1 mile, turn left off the A96 at Delnies Caravan park. Follow the road until you come to a T junction. Go right (kind of straight ahead) and follow the road along to the right. You will see the site entrance on your left side after 1 mile. Please note that it is not advisable to follow your navigation system by going through the high street of Nairn. Once you go under the railway bridge, it is a very sharp and narrow turn onto the B9091. Car, caravan combinations or large motorhomes are advised to avoid this route.
