Carinthia

Dominated by lakes and mountains, the Carinthia region is a beautiful area that offers a quieter retreat for campers and caravanners. It's a place to rest and recharge, and to enjoy the harmony of its natural surroundings and the hospitality of its people.

Lake Wörthersee in the south is popular with sunseekers and water sports enthusiasts thanks to its warm climate, cool waters and relaxed pace. To the northwest, Hohe Tauern National park offers up stunning scenery and a host of wildlife from chamois and marmots to bearded vultures. One of the park's highlights is the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain, and its glacier, the Pasterze, which are truly breathtaking in the summer months against the wide blue sky.

Carinthia is a region that enjoys its food and drink, and there are plenty of weekly farmers' markets to explore, as well as herb, beef and polenta festivals during the year. The region's stone pine schnapps, Zirbenschnapps, is a popular after dinner digestive with an aroma influenced by the cones of a pine tree.
