Camping Sandaya L'Estanquet is a large, lively campsite located in the vast Forêt de la Coubre, close to the pretty resort of La Palmyre and its beaches. Of the 387 pitches, just 92 are for tourers, they are of a good size and well shaded by the towering pines. All have electrical connections (10A). Some are in a group close to the leisure amenities and are separated by neat hedges; others are scattered among the mobile homes and chalets, many of which are to rent. The forest separates the site from the beaches and can be crossed using the miles of good cycle tracks, some leading to La Tremblade, the region’s oyster capital.

L'Estanquet is a stylish resort with excellent beaches, perhaps best known for its excellent zoo, which is the second largest in France and houses more than 1,600 animals. It is also an excellent centre for watersports. La Tremblade is a starting point for some excellent boat trips and for a fascinating excursion on a little steam train past oyster beds to Mornac-sur-Seudre or on to Saujon. Close to the site, there is an aerial adventure park (accrobranche), an amusement park, paintball and quad biking centres, and riding stables. Previously known as Camping La Palmyre.

Facilities at Camping Sandaya L'Estanquet

Four toilet blocks provide controllable showers and washbasins in cubicles, plus facilities for babies and accessible facilities, and are only open in high season. One small prefabricated unit close to pool and main touring pitches is open all season and has WCs, preset showers and washbasins in cubicles. Excellent food shop and bakery. Bar, snack bar/restaurant with takeaway. Swimming pool with new flume and water slides. Children’s pool. New floodlit area with adventure playground on rubber base, boulodrome and multisports pitch. Activity and entertainment programme in high season. Bicycle hire. Free WiFi over site. Mobile homes and chalets to rent.

Directions to Camping Sandaya L'Estanquet

Les Mathes is 20 km. northwest of Royan. From A10 at Saintes, follow signs for Royan on N159, then head northwest on D14 towards Marennes. After Arvent, turn south on D268 towards Les Mathes and site is on right at La Fouasse.
