La Bageasse is a member of the Terracamps  group. Popular with anglers, it is located on the banks of the River Allier, barraged to form a large lake with canoeing and bathing possible. It is near the stunning Gorges de l’Allier and the town of Brioude, home to the largest Romanesque church of the Auvergne, the Saint Julien basilica. The 49 touring pitches here are large and grassy, most are equipped with electrical connections (12A Europlug). There are 15 fully equipped chalets to rent. During peak season, several activities are organised, including a children’s club (6-12 yrs).

For more than the gentle canoeing available on the adjacent river, there is a watersports centre around 20 km. from La Bageasse, with good facilities for canoeing, rafting and other watersports. Transport can be organised from the campsite. There are many excellent walks in the surroundings of the site, and the managers will be pleased to make recommendations. Brioude is about 5 km. away and is an interesting town, primarily for its basilica, but the town also houses an aquarium/museum. A pleasant walk from the campsite leads into the smaller village of Vielle Brioude along the river (with a fitness course alongside). Vieille Brioude offers a view from the bridge, a 12th century church and a free ‘Museum of the Garden of the Vine’.

Two sanitary blocks are in traditional style and have been recently renovated. En-suite accessible unit. Laundry facilities. Small grocery shop at snack bar with bread and pastries to order and local produce. Bar and snack bar with games (15/5-30/9). Swimming and paddling pools (1/6-15/9). Fishing. Play area. Activity and entertainment programme (July/Aug). Chalets to rent. WiFi near reception (free).

Directions to Terracamps Camping la Bageasse

Brioude is midway between Clermont-Ferrand and Le Puy-en-Velay. Head south from Clermont-Ferrand on A75 as far as exit 20 and then follow the southbound N102 to Brioude. The site is well signed from the town. Follow Vieille Brioude and campsite signs. Do not use sat nav due to new road layout.
