Alan Rogers Review of Camping Santa Monica
This extensive and busy family run site has something for everyone, from super pitches and private toilet cabins to small tent pitches. Two heated swimming pools and two play areas make it a family destination as well as a convenient stopover. The 145 touring pitches all have 16A electricity and are gently defined by saplings and marker posts. There are three grades of pitch, from standard to fully serviced. Being alongside the main road, there can be noise at busy times. With mountain views across the valley, Santa Monica has an air of peace and spaciousness.
Two separate cable cars start near the site entrance and go to two mountain villages for winter skiers and summer mountain walkers. One way tickets are available for the energetic. The 16th century churches are a delight and the ancient wooden buldings reflect a bygone age. The Simplon Pass is the only main route from Switzerland to Italy which avoids motorways. It is also an easy pass for caravans which is only closed occasionally in winter and, even then, is still possible by using the Brig-Iselle train ferry through the mountain.

Two heated toilet blocks have free hot water in washbasins, sinks and showers. Baby bath and changing area. Accessible Facilities. Private cabins to rent by the service pitches. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Gas supplies. Bar and terrace, restaurant and shop (Easter-17/10). Small pool and children’s pool (heated 1/6-30/8). Playground and play house. Ski room. Club room with library. TV room. WiFi throughout (charged).
Directions to Camping Santa Monica
From Visp take the E62/19. Approaching Raron, ignore the first campsite signs and filter. Santa Monica is another 500 m. on the left, with large arched sign, just before Renault garage and opposite the Bergheim Hotel.
