Camping la Fontaine des Clercs is a beautiful, calm, peaceful site near the Canche River and very close to Montreuil-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais. The toilets and showers are a little dated but kept clean. The couple that looks after it is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They do speak a little English. There is a walk up a very steep hill into the walled town, which is so beautiful, and the cafes, bars, shops and restaurants are gorgeous and reasonably priced. The citadel gives the place a fantastic atmosphere.

This site is an oasis of tranquillity. Make sure you take advantage of this little gem & the bird song every morning & evening. 10 mins off the autoroute and under an hour from Calais. Wi-Fi is excellent. The owner sometimes opens the Velux window to sort out issues if the office is closed. The town is interesting and is 1 hour's walk around the city walls. Access to the site is up a narrow street with some cars parked, but they should be fine. Baker comes to the site every morning except Sunday at 08.30 am. The site has 81 gravel/grass touring pitches with electric hook-up point 10amp, 24 of which are seasonal. It is also possible to rent a caravan or mobile home.

The history of Montreuil-sur-mer is rich and exciting. More than a thousand years old, the city of ramparts is teeming with testimonies of ancient times. A look back at an impressive chronology. Explore the ruins of the royal castle of Philippe Auguste or admire the genius of Errard de Bar-le-Duc, architect of the Citadel. Also dive into the heart of the19th centuary Hugolien, Rue du Clape-en-Bas for example.

Directions to Camping la Fontaine des Clercs

From Calais on the A18/E402 take exit 25 Berk and at the roundabout after the slip road turn right onto D303. Next join D901 towards Montreuil sur Mer. At a crossroads turn left onto D349. Shortly turn right to remain on the D349. The site is signed on the left off this road – Rue de l’Eglise. If you cross the river, you have gone too far!! Do not follow sat nav to find the site, it will lead you a stray.
