Alan Rogers Review of Camping Gletscherdorf
Set in a river valley on the edge of Grindelwald, one of Switzerland’s best known winter and summer resorts, Gletscherdorf enjoys wonderful mountain views, particularly of the nearby north face of the Eiger. The new owners have made some great improvements to the grounds, pitches and facilities. There are 95 pitches in total, 33 of which are available for touring. Most are marked and have 10A electricity connections. There is space for 15 tents in an overflow field. This is, above all, a very quiet, friendly site for those who wish to enjoy the peaceful mountain air, dramatic scenery, walking and exploring or maybe mountaineering with the mountain climbing school in Grindelwald.
Touring units are accepted from April to October, after which the site caters for winter sports visitors staying in the seasonal units. A good community room is available for hikers and bikers. Due to the steep access and site roads, Gletscherdorf is not suitable for those with mobility issues.
Facilities at Camping Gletscherdorf
Excellent small sanitary block has been refurbished and is heated. Washing machines and dryer. Motorhome services. Gas supplies. Coffee machine. Adapters available for Swiss electricity sockets. Community room. Torches and long leads useful. WiFi throughout (free). Dogs are not accepted in high season.
Directions to Camping Gletscherdorf
Just before arriving at Grindelwald, fork right at roundabout (Shell petrol) and follow road past station and coach park. Follow camping signs, passing golf course and tennis club (road narrow with passing places). Turn left over river bridge, then sharp left into site. Alternatively, for short units, fork left at roundabout, go through Grindelwald centre, right at Church (not before), down steep hill and sharp right into site.
